We moved xmlgrrl.com to a new host today and also upgraded to the latest WordPress version, so this is just a test entry… But while I’m at it:
I accidentally killed my Treo 680 a couple of weeks ago and now I’m trying to figure out what to do next. The iPhone turns out not to be an attractive/complete PalmOS replacement device (yet, anyway — no to-do list app?!?), and I’m not liking the price of a new Treo sans contract. Consider this a smartphone bleg. Anyone got advice on a phone/PDA option that syncs smoothly with Palm apps, works on the AT&T network, and doesn’t cost both an arm and a leg? Or am I just hosed?
I’ve seen Woot.com occasionally have unlocked GSM Treo 650’s for about $130… of course, it’s very unpredictable and you have to jump quickly to get one.
An unlocked 680 goes for $399… eBayers seem to have AT&T or Cingular ones that have been unlocked for $320ish.
Thanks, Ben. Looking for 650s at Woot.com is a good idea. (I did place some naive/hopeful bids on eBay for various 680s and failed miserably.) I’d love to get an unlocked 680 but am not willing to pay multiple hundreds to get it!
In case anyone’s curious about the Rest of the Story, I ended up going back to the AT&T salesperson I originally bought the Treo from to see if he could help me. He offered me my original $99 deal on a new 680 if I extended my contract, and I was only 6 months into my 24, so we sealed the deal.
In case anyone’s curious how you hard-reset a Treo 680 when you can’t see the screen :-), I found and applied these instructions, and simply hope they worked!
